Troop 294

Troop 294 is a Boy Scout troop in Tacoma, WA, developing scouts with strong character and leadership skills since the 1960s. The troop has an active high adventure, camping, and advancement program, and is a scout-led group.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. We accomplish this by providing a scouting program that enhances growth through both intellectual and physical activities.

We work to develop leadership capabilities by providing training, role models, and opportunities to lead within the troop. We support our members in partnership with our chartered organization by providing well-trained leaders, an energetic environment, and an active program.

Troop 294 is always looking for more scouts to join our adventures! We currently meet on Wednesday evenings. For more information about joining our troop, contact one of our leaders.

  • Our Troops place an emphasis on outdoor activities. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month (except for December). Most months, those activities include at least one overnight campout. Our Scouts have the opportunity to attend summer camp at at various locations. This is a week-long trip and a lot of fun and opportunity to earn merit badges. During the summer, we also have a weeklong high adventure trip.

  • Troop 294 meets on Wednesday evenings 7-8:30pm. During these 90-minute meetings we practice Scouting skills, work on advancement and merit badges and plan and prepare for upcoming events. We meet year-round except for during holidays and when we are attending other scouting activities. Parent meetings are monthly.

  • Our Troop is active in supporting our community Our Scouts have completed many Eagle projects in and around Tacoma as well as performing frequent service activities. We participate in community cleanups, state and national park trail maintenance, school projects and Memorial Day flag placement.

  • We charge annual dues to cover annual BSA registration fees and fees charged by the Council. Scouts are expected to pay for summer camp (with a troop subsidy), as well as other Troop activities We are dependent on the success of our wreath sales, our annual fundraising drive that takes place in November to help cover other expenses.
